CASE STUDY

Marine Manufacturer

How a Mission-Critical, Sunlight-Readable HMI Solution Delivered Zero-Failure Reliability in Extreme Marine Environments.

A world-renowned manufacturer of premium, high-performance offshore sportfishing vessels and luxury motor yachts. For over 40 years, their brand has been built on a reputation for deep-water seaworthiness, rugged construction, and flawless engineering. Their customers are discerning captains who demand 100% reliability, 50 miles from shore, in the most challenging conditions.

1500-Nit, Optically Bonded Display

19” Marine-Grade MFD (Multi-Function Display)

Perfect readability in all conditions, zero glare

7-Year "Locked BOM" Lifecycle Guarantee

Ruggedized, Isolated Aluminum Chassis

Custom PCAP Controller (Wet & Glove Tune)

The Challenge

For their new flagship 65-foot convertible yacht, they were designing an integrated “glass helm” to replace the cluttered, multi-device dashboard of previous models. This new central HMI (Human-Machine Interface) would be the vessel’s command center, and it faced three critical, non-negotiable failure points:

Environmental Failure:

The display had to be 100% sunlight readable in the direct, blinding glare of the open ocean. It also had to be completely sealed against corrosive salt-fog, driving rain, and high-pressure washdowns.

Touchscreen Failure:

revious touch panels used by the brand were unreliable. They would “ghost touch” when hit with water spray and would not register commands from wet or gloved hands—a critical usability and safety failure.

Vibration & Shock Failure:

The display would be subjected to constant, severe pounding and high-frequency vibration from wave-slamming impacts and powerful diesel engines. A standard display would delaminate or fail within hours.

The customer needed a long-term HMI partner who could engineer a “zero-failure” display solution as tough and reliable as their hulls.

Our Solutions + Services

We were selected to be the exclusive HMI partner for their entire flagship line. We delivered a complete, custom-engineered solution, not just a display.

Custom HMI Hardware Engineering

We designed a 19” Marine-Grade MFD (Multi-Function Display) assembly. The unit is housed in a CNC-milled, fully sealed aluminum chassis that acts as a rugged mount and a passive heat sink.

Application-Specific Touch Tuning

Our engineers developed a custom firmware for the PCAP touch controller. This tuning gives the HMI two modes: it intelligently rejects false inputs from water droplets and salt spray while accurately processing intentional commands from a user’s wet or gloved hands.

Optical Bonding & Engineering

To solve the two biggest marine challenges, the high-brightness (1500-nit) IPS panel was optically bonded to the 4mm anti-reflective cover glass. This process eliminates the air gap, making the display fog-proof and dramatically enhancing sunlight readability by reducing internal reflections.

Extreme Ruggedization & Testing

The display assembly was subjected to rigorous in-house testing, including 500-hour salt-fog tests, IP67 submersion tests, and military-grade shock and vibration protocols to ensure it would survive the 20-year lifespan of the vessel.

The Final Outcome

By partnering with [Your Company Name], [Customer Brand Name] launched their new 65-foot flagship to universal acclaim at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The “glass helm” was the star of the vessel.

Set a New Industry Standard:

The HMI was praised in Power & Motoryacht and Marlin Magazine as “the clearest, most responsive, and most reliable glass helm on the market.” This solidified them as a leader in technological innovation.

Zero In-Field Failures:

In the 24 months since the launch of the new line, they have reported zero in-field failures of the HMI unit across their entire fleet. This is an unprecedented reliability metric that has dramatically reduced warranty costs.

Enhanced Captain Safety & Confidence:

The “wet-touch” accuracy and sunlight readability mean the captain never has to fight the interface. They can trust their navigation, sonar, and engine data in critical situations, enhancing the vessel’s safety and the owner’s confidence.

From Our Customer

We don’t just build boats; we build confidence for captains who are 100 miles offshore. Logic delivered a display that is as rugged as our hulls. It’s sunlight-readable, 100% waterproof, and it just works. Our captains trust it, which means we trust Logic Technologies.
